With a clear 3-0 win in the final, the “Sky Blues” from Weilburg won the cup!
Quite unexpectedly, the FEIG ELECTRONIC team won the Rotary Football Cup 2024, which was held in Limburg for the eleventh time.
After the team got through the preliminary round with a bit of luck, there was no stopping them after a tactical change in the main round: FEIG won all of its games very convincingly and took home the big winner’s trophy for the first time with a 3-0 victory in the final.
As the name suggests, the tournament is organized by the Rotary Club Limburg on the grounds of VfR 07 Limburg with the aim of using the proceeds to support various children’s and youth projects in the district.
A total of 32 teams took part in the eleventh event this year. The top two teams in each of the 8 preliminary groups qualified, and from the round of 16 onwards there were knockout games.
Bumpy start in the group phase
Despite a clear 5-0 win in the first game against Lebenshilfe Limburg-Diez, there were still some discrepancies, especially in defense. The second game against Fürst-Johann-Ludwig-Schule was lost 0-3 and we also lost 0-1 against Loma Reiseagentur despite having clearly more chances.
Thanks to a one-goal better goal difference, we still qualified for the round of 16.
Confident performance in the knockout round and a clear final victory
After a tactical change with a clear allocation of roles in defense and the two lightning-fast strikers Theo Becker and Simon Neugebauer, we showed a very stable performance in the main round.
In the round of 16, we defeated one of the tournament favorites, MNT GROUP, 1-0. Then we beat Friedrich-Dessauer-Schule 1-0 in the quarterfinals. The semifinal against Dr. Fischer GmbH was hard work in the truest sense of the word.
The game was characterized by sometimes tough and dogged duels. After two quick goals for FEIG, they had to accept a goal, but the defense around the always cautious Timur Maier brought the narrow 2:1 victory over time.
The final against Wilhelm Schütz KG from Weilburg-Gaudernbach was almost a city championship.
Here FEIG won clearly with 3:0, as the opponent was clearly suffering more from the hot temperatures and the strain of 6 games in one day than FEIG.
The game went without a single warning and brought FEIG ELECTRONIC the unexpected but deserved title win.
After the award ceremony, some celebrated their triumph at the Limburg Old Town Festival, while others preferred to sit in front of their television at home after the exhausting day to watch the European Championship matches.
This great day, which ended perfectly with the title win, showed the team’s cohesion and perfect cooperation – just as it is practiced day after day in the company together with more than 500 other colleagues.
