The right solution for every application
Position determination
Passive, maintenance-free UHF RFID transponders provide reliable data for determining the position of trains, subway trains, trams, etc., even in bad weather, in tunnels, or if rail tracks run in close proximity to one another. This allows higher-level systems to ensure safe rail operations. The location information can also be used as a trigger to activate automatic rail head treatment.
Trackside/wayside detection
Robust RFID readers and antennas along the track automatically detect passing trains including their individual wagons and components. This makes it possible to document the distances each part of the train has completed, which provides the ideal basis for demand-oriented maintenance.
Automatic and selective door opening
Data is required to ensure that automated door systems only open those doors that are in line with platform. RFID systems provide this information to protect passengers, offer a comfortable travel experience, and reduce the workload for train staff.
Maintenance process optimization
Planning and coordination of maintenance and cleaning processes must be optimized in order to prevent delays occurring even before operations begin. Systems with long-range RFID readers provide the necessary data for optimizing coordination and documentation at the depot. This ensures clarity as to which trains are where and which steps are still pending. It also ensures that mix-ups and delays are a thing of the past.
Passenger information systems
RFID-based positioning can provide passenger information systems with up-to-date data. While tunnels and narrow urban canyons can influence the accuracy and reliability of GPS-based system, RFID systems are not susceptible to such issues. This is a decisive criterion, especially for subway trains.
Condition monitoring
It is extremely sustainable, economical, and efficient to plan maintenance work in advance. However, this requires reliable status data. The usage of trains and individual components can be clearly documented via RFID recording. This data can also be transferred to a digital twin and used for further status analyses and simulations.
Pantograph activation
Electric buses and rail vehicles are sometimes only supplied with electricity temporarily via overhead lines, e.g., on special sections of track or at stops. In such situations, charging time must be optimized. RFID systems enable automated activation and deactivation of the pantograph. This ensures maximum power yield for the vehicles and less work for the staff on board.
Everything from a single source
Why order from multiple manufacturers when you can get everything from a single source? Our wide range of UHF products includes readers, antennas, and transponders for use in a variety of rail transportation applications. We offer everything from long-range track-side readers to certified onboard solutions. We also offer customized solutions.
If RFID alone is not enough, you can also equip and automate your route network with FEIG loop sensors.
